Jordan Threatens to Deport Refugees, Regime Releases Two Turkish Journalist with Iranian Mediation Demonstrations continue in the central Damascus neighbourhood of Maidan unabated Top Stories The Syrian National Council decided not to participate in the Arab League’s opposition meeting in Cairo because the agenda was to begin dialogue with the Assad regime. Assad’s militiamen released two Turkish journalists detained two months ago after mediation by Iran. The EU imposed new sanctions on the Assad regime targeting two institutions and three individuals financing the regime. Protesters say their camps lack clean drinking water, food, and medicine for those who are ill. The Jordanian government retorted by raiding the camp and forced the refugees to end their strike. Those who did not comply were taken to the border and threatened with deportation to Syria. Assad’s militiamen released two Turkish journalists detained two months ago. According to the journalists, they were detained in a small underground cell. The journalists were freed after Iranian officials mediated their release to Tehran, from where they were sent to Istanbul. The Syrian National Council (SNC) announced it will not attend the planned Syrian opposition meeting hosted by the Arab League because its secretary general Nabil al-Arabi announced that the meeting will seek to begin dialogue with the Assad regime. Furthermore, the Arab League sent personal invitations to selected SNC members and not to the SNC as the representative of the Syrian people. The EU imposed new sanctions on the Assad regime, targeting two institutions and three individuals who are financing the regime. The EU threatened to impose additional sanctions if the regime continued to violate the terms of the ceasefire. Meanwhile, Germany warned that the conditions in Syria might lead to a regional crisis, as the violence could easily spread to nearby countries, such as Lebanon. Regime forces continued to violate the ceasefire, as they shelled the village of Ihsem in the province of Idlib, shelled the city of Daraa and the town of Lajat amid heavy fire, and opened fire in the town of Herak in the province of Daraa. They also raided the town of Kafarzeita with armoured units amid heavy fire in the province of Hama, opened fire at a demonstration in the city of Aleppo, conducted arbitrary arrests and sweeps under the cover of heavy fire in the neighbourhood of Qabun in Damascus and the suburbs of Erbin, Artouz, Malaiha, and Hamouriya, and shelled and opened heavy fire in the city of Quriya in the province of Deir Azzour. UN observers toured the town of al-Bab in the province of Aleppo accompanied by multitudes of demonstrators. They also visited the neighbourhood of al-Joura in the city of Deir Azzour, where they were welcomed by an anti-regime demonstration, which led security forces to open heavy fire at them in order to disperse them. Assad’s forces killed at least 16; most fell in the province of Homs, as regime forces killed nine and wounded at least 40 with its heavy shelling in the city of Rastan, and killed and wounded more as a result of its bombardment of the city of Homs and its heavy firing in the town of Houleh. Peaceful demonstrations continued to go out in mass numbers, as new demonstrations and sit-ins took place in the universities of Damascus and Aleppo which resulted in security forces opening heavy fire to disperse them and conducting arbitrary arrests. الأردن تهدّد بترحيل لاجئين والنظام يطلق سراح صحفيّان تركيّان بوساطة إيرانيّة   قام اللاجئون السوريّون في أحد المخيمات في الأردن بالإضراب عن الطعام احتجاجاً على تدهور الظروف المعيشية، حيث لا تتوفّر مياه صالحة للشرب ولا أدوية كافية للمرضى. وقد وردت شهادات تُشير إلى أن الحكومة الأردنيّة ردَّت على هذا الاحتجاج باقتحام المخيّم بباصات الأمن العسكري وإجبار اللاجئين على فكّ إضرابهم، ثم إرسال حوالي خمسين منهم بباصات الأمن إلى الحدود السورية وتهديدهم بالترحيل. وقامت ميليشيّات الأسد بإطلاق سراح صحفيّين تركيّين تمّ أسرهما منذ شهرين. وحسب إفادات الصحافيّين فقد تمّ احتجازهما في زنزانة صغيرة تحت الأرض. وقد تمّ فكّ أسرهما بعد وساطة مسؤولين إيرانيين مع الجهة الأمنية التي اختطفتهم ونُقِلوا إلى طهران ثمَّ إلى اسطنبول قرر المجلس الوطني السوري عدم المشاركة في مؤتمر المعارضة السورية الذي دعت له الجامعة العربية بسبب تصريحات الأمين العام التي حددت الهدف من اللقاء في تشكيل وفد من المعارضة السورية للمشاركة في الحوار المُنتظر مع مُمثلي النظام. بالإضافة إلى ذلك فقد اعتبر المجلس الوطني تقديم دعوات شخصية لبعض أعضاء المجلس لحضور المؤتمر تجاهلاً لوضع المجلس الوطني كممثل شرعي للشعب السوري أقر الاتّحاد الأوروبي حزمة جديدة من العقوبات ضد نظام الأسد، حيث أعلن بيان للاتحاد عن تجميد أرصدة مؤسستين وثلاثة أشخاص يُعتبرون من مصادر تمويل نظام. وقد هدّد البيان بفرض عقوبات جديدة في حال لم يلتزم النظام باتفاق وقف إطلاق النار. يأتي هذا بينما حذّرت خارجيّة ألمانيا من أنّ الأوضاع في سورية قد تقود إلى أزمة في المنطقة برُمَّتِهَا، فقد ينتقل العنف الحالي إلى دول مجاورة مثل لبنان واستمرّت قوّات النظام في انتهاك اتّفاقيّة وقف إطلاق النار، حيث قامت بقصف قرية إحسم في محافظة إدلب ومدينة درعا وبلدة اللجاة، ومحاصرة بلدة عثمان والحراك وسط إطلاق نار كثيف، واقتحام بلدة كفرزيتا في محافظة حماة بالمدرّعات وسط إطلاق نار كثيف، وإطلاق النار على مظاهراتٍ في مدينة حلب، وشنِّ حملة مداهمات واعتقالات تحت غطاء إطلاق نار كثيف في حي القابون في دمشق، وفي عربين وعرطوز والمليحة وحموريّة في ريف دمشق، وقصف وإطلاق نار كثيف في مدينة القوريّة في محافظة دير الزور وقامت لجنة المراقبين الدوليين بالتجوّل في بلدة الباب في محافظة حلب بمرافقة أعداد كبيرة من المتظاهرين، وقامت أيضاً بزيارة حي الجورة في مدينة دير الزور حيث استقبلهم الأهالي بمظاهرة مناهضة للنظام مما أدّى إلى قيام قوّات الأمن بإطلاق النار الكثيف عليهم وقتلت قوّات الأسد ما لا يقل عن 16 شخصاً اليوم؛ سقط معظمهم في محافظة حمص، حيث قامت قوّات النظام بقتل تسعة أشخاص وجرح 40 آخرين في قصف عنيف على مدينة الرستن، وقتل وجرح المزيد في قصف لمدينة حمص وإطلاق نار كثيف في بلدة الحولة واستمرّت المظاهرات السلميّة بالخروج، حيث تمّ تنفيذ مظاهرات واعتصامات في جامعات دمشق وحلب فقامت قوّات الأمن بتفريقها بالرصاص واعتقال العديد من الطلّاب المشاركين أبرز المقاطع المصورة مورك، حماة: الدبابات والباصات المُحمَّلة بالمئات من عناصر الأمن والشبيحة تقتحم الحي وتسرق سيارات المدنيين ريف دمشق: أرتال من الجيش والأمن تقتحم مدن ريف دمشق بعد قصفها، ج2، ج3، ج4 حمص: قصف المدينة مستمر والحرائق تنتشر في كل مكان، ج2 Revolution Statistics Syrians killed: 14,640 Children killed: 1,040 Females killed: 979 Soldiers killed: 1,210 Protestors killed under torture: 580 Missing: +65,000 Protestors currently incarcerated: +212,000 Syrian refugees since March: +54,164 Refugees in Turkey: 24,564 Refugees in Lebanon: +24,000 Refugees in Jordan: +5,600 International Reactions EU agrees on new Syria sanctions, some worry on Annan mission Jordan, Egypt say political solution key to address Syrian crisis Riyadh says violence casts doubt on Annan's Syria peace plan‎ SNC declines to participate in the Arab League’s opposition meeting Selected Media Coverage New York Times: Syrians defy leaders to aid those in need Business Week: Turkish reporter describes Syrian detention Time: The Syria crisis: Is al-Qaeda intervening in the conflict?
