Daily report from Latakia on Friday [Heroes of Aleppo University] 18/05/2012 - PART 1/2

37 points of demos were this Friday’s result; Latakia [Qalaa, BeirQdar, Fattahi, Dhuha, Yaseen, Shariyeh, Hussein, Dayeh, Omar bin al-Khattab, Muhajireen, Joud, near Ugarit, Tishreen University dorm, Bazaar, al-Raml (two night demos)], Jableh [Mansoori, Rahman, Abu Bakr, Faidh, Shaweesh], Kurds Mountains [Tertiah, Shellef, Kebbani, Ain al-Qantara, Touma, Dwerkeh, Bsherref, Ikko], Sahyoun Mountain [Bkas, Zenquqa, Msherfeh, Shirqaq, Babanna, Jengheel, Haffeh, Dfail].

In Latakia and Jableh security was heavy as usual on Friday surrounding main mosques and areas with gangs roaming the streets; like surrounding Asaad and Aisha mosques in Qnainas, with many patrols in the square of the area. Security was also heavy near Omar bin al-Khattab, and in Slaybeh where the road was blocked near Batta Building by security.

Despite the blockade in many areas a demo strated out of Yaseen Mosque in Ziraa, and the same happened in Muhajireen Mosque despite security presence of more than 100 members. Heavy security was also in Oweineh surrounding Obada bin Samet Mosque and 8 security cars were in Slaybeh square.

Tear gas was thrown at protesters by security in Souq al-Dayeh, and a barrier was extracted near Sidawi with an ambulance car for unknown reasons.

A big independence flag was raised during the Slaybeh demo, and at night freedom fliers were distributed in Owieneh and old industrial area. Security members were busy today picking up freedom fliers thrown during demos in Ashrafiyeh.

A camera was filming people are they were getting out of Abi-Dardaa Mosque in Tabiyat, and Syrian State TV was filming Ajjan Mosque to give the illusion that everything’s fine while two fire trucks and gangs were behind the cameras with their weapons.

At Tishreen University a small fight broke between students back from their demo and pro-regime students with security, after that pro-regime students went of demo of their own saluting Bashar and Maher al-Assad while inspection was tight on the university’s gate.

A house was raided this afternoon in Salma arresting Ramez Marzouq before releasing him as locals meddled in assuring that he was not the one security men were after.

Five were randomly arrested in Slaybeh as a payback for the protest that took place there, and 17 year-old Kamal Janoodi was arrested near Shariyah after fainting out during the demo due to tear gas.

A huge explosion was heard tonight at Maisaloon Street, and yesterday night an explosion was heard in al-Raml.

Regime gangs killed informer Saeed Shakoush (brother of famous informer Saeed Shakoush who carried the same name) and threw the body in a garbage can in Slaybeh; he was exposed and they probably didn’t need him anymore.
